"Jane Austen"
Recently, the University of Southampton digitized the Jane Austen Family music books. This collection brings together nearly 600 pieces - mainly songs and works for keyboard by both international figures and British composers. These music books (many written in Jane Austen's own hand) present a vivid picture of domestic musical culture in England in the years around 1800, furnishing valuable insights on music-making in the homes of gentry families as well as essential ideas for musical episodes in Austen’s fiction. Due to the wide interest in Jane Austen and the 200th anniversary of her death in 2017,
Donna Chaff has created multiple hour-long Concert/Lectures using various selections from this collection, as well as music from the various film adaptations of Austen's novels. Naturally, Donna takes on the persona of Jane's childhood friend 'Lady Maira Chaffinton" and performs in full Regency regalia!
